Rapid urbanization in Asia and the Pacific, along with the region’s unsustainable consumption and production practices and extractive economy, is intensifying risks and vulnerabilities, contributing to resource scarcity and depletion of biodiversity and ecosystems services. Of all resources, energy, water and food/land are the most essential to sustain development: they are also the most vulnerable to future demands.
